How heat works

Prepare

We guide you through simple preparation steps so heat can reach every harbouring spot.

Heat

We raise room temperatures under continuous monitoring until lethal levels are achieved.

Eliminate

Bed bugs and eggs are eliminated across mattresses, furniture, and voids — in a single visit.

Chemical-free alternative

Why heat, not spray

  • Kills bed bugs at all life stages, including eggs
  • Penetrates deep into mattresses, furniture & voids
  • No residual chemicals — suitable when sprays aren’t preferred
  • No insecticide resistance — heat they can’t survive

Other pests heat can treat

We’re a bed bug heat specialist first. The same monitored whole-room heat we use for bed bugs can also help with certain fabric and harbourage pests — when a survey says heat is a good fit. Heat is not a cure-all for every insect, and we won’t pretend it is.

Clothes moths & carpet moths

Clothes moths and carpet moths damage wool, silk, and other natural fibres. Larvae hide in wardrobes, carpets, under furniture, and in textile folds that sprays often miss. Where the infestation is mainly in rooms and soft contents we can heat thoroughly, monitored heat can kill moths and larvae in those treated spaces. We’ll still talk through prep (decluttering, access, heat-sensitive items) so heat can reach the harbourages.

Carpet beetles

Carpet beetles and their larvae feed on natural fibres in carpets, upholstery, and stored textiles. Heat that reaches the fabrics and voids where they live can deal with adults and larvae in the treated area. As with moths, success depends on scope, preparation, and cold-spot monitoring — not on marketing promises.

Fleas

Fleas don’t only live on pets. Eggs and larvae often sit in carpets, sofas, and floor cracks. Heat can help break that indoor life cycle in treated rooms. Important: pets and other animal hosts need their own veterinary or host treatment — heat alone doesn’t replace that. Without treating the host and reducing reintroduction, fleas can return even after a good room treatment. We’ll be straight about that when you call.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches hide in warm voids, under units, and in deep harbourages. Heat can be part of a plan for some properties after a proper look at the layout and infestation. We assess cockroach jobs case by case. We do not promise a one-visit wipeout or a blanket guarantee for cockroaches — reinfestation from untreated areas, adjoining units, or drains is a real risk. If heat isn’t the right tool, we’ll say so.

Not sure whether your pest is a heat job? Call 020 3951 6155 or email info@londonbedbugheattreatments.co.uk — or get a quote. We’ll tell you what heat can and can’t do for your property.

Commercial note: In some food stores, warehouses, and similar sites, monitored heat is also used against certain stored-product insects (e.g. warehouse moths / product beetles) where the space can be heated safely and thoroughly. Ask us — bed bugs remain our core specialism.

Bed bug heat treatment guides

Frequently asked questions

Short answers below — see the full FAQ page for preparation, hotels/HMOs, eggs, and more.

What is heat treatment?

We use industrial heaters and ducting to raise the temperature of treated rooms to a level that is lethal to bed bugs and their eggs, including harbourages in mattresses, furniture, and voids. Temperatures are monitored during the visit. It is a heat process, not a residual insecticide spray.

How long does it take?

Most suitable homes are planned as a single visit. Duration depends on property size, how many rooms are treated, contents, and preparation. We confirm an expected window with your quote.

Is it safe for pets and children?

People and pets leave during the heat window and return after rooms have cooled and we give the all-clear. Heat treatment does not leave a chemical spray residue in the way many insecticide treatments do. Tell us in advance about any heat-sensitive items or medical devices so we can plan prep.

Do you guarantee the treatment?

Yes. Whole-property heat treatments come with a 6-month written free re-treatment guarantee.

Will heat damage my home or furniture?

Professional heat treatment is planned to reach insect-lethal temperatures while protecting the building and typical contents. We ask you to remove or protect heat-sensitive items (aerosols, candles, some plastics, wine, medicines, etc.) as part of prep. Raise any concerns when you book so we can advise.

What about cold spots?

Bed bugs survive where heat does not reach. We use airflow and temperature sensors to monitor treated spaces and address likely cool zones. Good preparation (clearing access to skirting, beds, and soft furniture) makes even heating more reliable.

How is this different from spraying?

Many sprays struggle with eggs and with insects hidden deep in furniture or voids, and some bed bug populations show insecticide resistance. Heat is used to penetrate those harbourages in a planned visit. We are a heat-focused bed bug service — ask us if your situation needs a different approach.

Can you treat hotels, HMOs, or offices?

Yes. Commercial and multi-occupancy jobs are scheduled around access and downtime. We quote by rooms or areas and confirm a clear return-to-service expectation with the booking.

Do I always get same-day attendance?

We aim for a fast response and same-day attendance when availability and logistics allow. Postcode, time of day, and job size affect timing — we will give you a straight answer when you call or submit a quote request.

What happens after treatment?

Once monitoring shows the heat cycle is complete and rooms have cooled, we advise when you can return. Follow any aftercare we provide. If something does not look right within the guarantee window, contact us on 020 3951 6155 with your quote details.
